A Role for Social Media

by Caylea Selke

I live in Regina, SK, where I have been running NCEM’s social media ministry. This year more than any has shown the importance and impact of having an online presence. Younger generations have already been very involved on social media and now, with Covid, everyone has had to navigate social media in order to “attend” church, school and connect with people. I have seen the Lord work firsthand through this ministry in the way it has expanded our reach in sharing with others about our ministry, and recruitment for the Mission.

Earlier this year I had put together a promo video regarding the specific needs at NCEM Headquarters, and we had instant messages from people wanting to help, as well as a new couple who joined us full-time. So cool! I have had many other comments from people enjoying the videos with the MKs (missionary kids) and getting to know them, as they also represent us as a mission.

Hearing our missionaries sharing their stories in person is how others are most impacted and drawn to our Mission’s social media pages. Right now I have been working on video interviews with different missionaries asking, “What led you to join NCEM?” I was able to connect with our new missionaries at Candidate Training this spring, and I have great hopes that their stories will encourage others as we share them online.

I am thankful that the Lord has been giving me different ideas and encouragement to continue on in this role. I also love how this role has allowed me to build relationships with many at our Bible camps, where I love to spend my time in the summer. Even when I am behind the camera taking photos/videos, I am still able to connect one-on-one with people, and God has put people in my path that I have been able to share Christ with.

Pray that NCEM would continue to have a positive online presence, and for others to join me in this ministry as there is so much more that can be done with a team.

Caylea grew up in Walter & Cindy Selke’s home (our General Director), so she has been part of ministry in and around Regina all her life. Her present work includes NCEM’s communication through social media, while she continues to minister to youth face-to-face in Regina, Saskatchewan.
