introducing our missionaries...
Michael shares how he came to join NCEM as an associate missionary …
I’ve worked for a float-plane operation for several years now. Every fall we go fly in the Island Lake area of Manitoba, where we move folks to their hunting and fishing camps. It can be a super busy time.
A couple years ago I worked really hard to get people and supplies moved around but, at the end of the season, I wondered if my hard working had really been pleasing to God.
I got frustrated with different people when they weren’t ready to leave and the sun was setting … or similar pressures. I had blown some potentially good opportunities for glorifying God and tried to please people instead, fighting for my own reputation.
One of the last days of the season I took a long walk, and felt convicted. I decided that something needed to change. Who was I going to primarily work for?
An old friend of mine mentioned NCEM to me a while back. Then I realized that I had driven past the Mission’s Headquarters near Prince Albert every time I had gone to visit my family in Alberta.
So I popped in and, after chatting with one of the directors, I found out that I could join NCEM as an associate missionary, while working in different northern communities. That interested me and I signed up.
I’m still not sure exactly what I’m doing, but I’m learning the lesson of abiding in Christ, and want to follow His guidance. Since joining I have been encouraged to visit with other missionaries and hear their stories.
It means a lot to see men and women who actively seek God. My biggest reason for joining NCEM is the accountability to live out my convictions, the joy and peace in knowing that there are people praying for me and the people I connect with … and being with a team who have wisdom, experience and advice in how to keep up His work in the places I live.
